Oscar Cubillos Galvis was born in Caicedonia Valley, Colombia, on the 10th of September 1959. His first exhibition took place in 1978 at the Art Gallery of Pablo the VI in Caicedonia. It received a lot of praise from peers and experts alike.
A new artist was born and soon became recognised across the country. Over the years Oscar took part in numerous exhibitions, which firmly established him as a successful artist on a national scale. He has also exhibited his works internationally to a high acclaim. Many of his collectors are corporate institutions and government ministers. Fidel Castro is one of the proud owners of his paintings!
Oscar’s works range from naturalistic, impressionist-like, to abstract, political and even surreal. In the words of his critics he is a talented artist whose technique is based on profound use of classical colours, good portraiture skills & vivid imagery, and whose diverse works are the essence of fine art. This artist grew up in a country torn by four centuries of civil war. His close family members suffered from political persecution; some got killed in a recent conflict. Oscar himself survived 3 bullets. These disturbing personal experiences come through in his darker art & manifest themselves in a plea of the anguished nation for a long-awaited peace.
