CAMDEN PRINTMAKERS 23rd November 2009 - 28th November 2009 CAMDEN PRINTMAKERS Exhibition dates: Monday, 23rd November – Saturday, 28th November 2009. Private Views: Tuesday, 24th November and Thursday, 26th November. 6.00pm – 9.00pm Some of the artists have been working together for over thirty years and we specialise in many forms of printmaking. We started off as a small group, founded by Annette Lewin and Barbara Webb, with small house exhibitions and then moved on to showing our work annually in local galleries. Several members of the group exhibit at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and in other galleries in England, Austria, France, Germany, Israel, South Africa and America. Also their work is represented in the Government Art Collection. During the last few years we have taken a great interest in the ‘Art for Hospitals’ movement. Annette Lewin works on a voluntary basis in the Royal Free Hospital, introducing paintings, prints and sculpture into the communal areas. Jenny Furey is involved with University College Hospital where our work is permanently displayed in the communal areas. We have also held exhibitions in the their Street Gallery which have been highly successful. Barbara Webb has organized our first exhibition at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. We shall be exhibiting there during the fortnight immediately before our exhibition at the Coningsby Gallery. What is particularly interesting about the group’s work is the diversity of techniques employed by the different artists. Although all of us were taught by Peter Freeth (R.A), he always encouraged each of us to follow our own bent. Thus we have practised all forms of etching – drypoint, monoprint, intaglio, photo-etching, hard and soft grounds and pure aquatint. All tastes are catered for.
