From Creative Director to Steel Sculptor
Unique solo exhibition of new sculpture by Brigitte Evill, winner V&A Sculpture award 2006 (Inspired by…) presented by the Coningsby Gallery.
Is this how I thought it would be? is a unique solo exhibition of new sculpture by Brigitte Evill. Brigitte was the winner of the Victoria & Albert museum’s Inspired by… competition 2006 for emerging artists. The V&A winning piece, Ascent, will be on show alongside other one-off pieces in steel and bronze. The show will also include study drawings and paintings.
The show marks the culmination of work since Brigitte made a major career change from Creative Director in international advertising and design, left London and set up a studio in East Sussex in the former home of Spike Milligan, which she and her husband have been renovating since 2005.
Brigitte’s work expresses many emotions – fear, hope, doubt and optimism – but always centres on her central theme of ideas and the irrepressible energy they have to bring about change and new directions.
Her work is a mix of semi-abstract and figurative and is accessible with a sense of uncertainty. Prices from £50 to £5,000.
“Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a head full of ideas and these pieces bring together thoughts that have been swirling inside me for ten years or so. I love working in metal because I like the way it makes impermanent emotions enduring and solid, like frozen breath,” says Brigitte.
