Deborah Lanyon / Recent Paintings
–
Deborah Lanyon is a Twickenham based artist who has painted since the age of fifteen. Having trained in the late seventies at Central St Martins and The Byam Shaw School of Art, she has spent the last three decades exhibiting in and out of London, including Art First in Cork Street and more recently The Foundry Gallery in Chelsea. She has sold paintings to private collectors, restaurants and companies.
Her work is primarily in acrylic and based on the landscape. She paints in a way that is both physical and expressive, often painting on the floor so as to adopt an arial view, and likes to emphasise both structure and colour in her compositions.
She admires the work of many of the St Ives artists, including Roger Hilton, Patrick Heron and Ben Nicholson, and their work influences hers. From Hilton, she has learned the importance of mark-making, from Heron colour and from Nicholson the significance of structure in holding a painting together.
