St. Jude’s In The City

We’re delighted to announce the return to London of the St. Jude’s Gallery for the third St. Jude’s In The City exhibition. Exhibiting a series of fabrics, wallpapers, prints, paintings and collages by: Mark Hearld, Angie Lewin and Emily Sutton. In addition to the framed and unframed work that the artists will exhibit, we’ll also be featuring the various fabrics and forthcoming wallpapers that each has designed for St. Jude’s.

Mark Hearld

Born in 1974, Mark studied illustration at Glasgow College of Art and then completed an MA in Natural History Illustration at the Royal College of Art. Taking his inspiration from the flora and fauna of the British countryside, Mark works across a number of mediums, producing limited edition lithographic and linocut prints, unique paintings, collages and hand-painted ceramics. We share Mark’s admiration for artist/designers such as Bawden, Piper, Nash – artists well regarded for their forays into the world of commercial design. Mark has recently completed commissions for Faber & Faber andTate Museums.A children’s book illustrated by a series of Mark’s unique collages will be published by Walker Books in 2012.

Angie Lewin

Angie Lewin studied BA (Hons) Fine Art Printmaking at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, followed by a year’s postgraduate printmaking at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts. Angie creates limited edition linocut, wood engraving, lithograph and screen prints – inspired by skeletal plantforms seen against the sea and sky of North Norfolk and the Scottish Highlands. She is a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Print makers and of The Society of Wood Engravers. In addition to her limited edition printmaking and fabric design for St. Jude’s, Angie has also designed fabric for Liberty and has illustrated for Penguin, Conran Octopus,Virago and Faber & Faber. In 2010 Merrell published ‘Angie Lewin: Plants and Places’ which profiles Angie’s work over 192 pages with 240 illustrations.

Emily Sutton

Born and raised in the depths of North Yorkshire, Emily recently graduated from Edinburgh College of Art.With a lifelong love of drawing, painting and crafting, Emily uses a combination these approaches in her current work, producing paintings, prints and handmade birds - as featured in World of Interiors magazine. Emily is inspired by the relics of a bygone era and afternoons immersed in the contents of the Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh and is currently working on a children’s book for the V&A Museum in London. In 2011 Emily won the ‘Best British Pattern’ category in the British Design Awards for her St. Jude’s fabric, Curiosity Shop.
