Artist Simon Tolhurst is pleased to announce an exhibition of drawings made during a residency for Haematology Cancer Care, UCLH Charity, from 2013-2023. Exhibited artworks are portraits of patients undergoing treatment for cancer or haematological conditions at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Portraits were created during chemotherapy or other treatments and often include the patient’s loved ones in double or group portraits. The Portrait Project has been featured in national and local press, BBC and ITV online news. The BBC have made two short films about the project, the first in 2017 titled ‘The Artist Who Draws Cancer Patients’, and in 2023 for BBC ‘The One Show’, a film with Victoria Derbyshire, by Topical Productions.
This exhibition is the first time that portraits from this important body of work have been shown together publicly.
